WSL Final 5

I'm so beyond pumped to be surfing in the WSL finals down at lowers! This is the first year that the WSL implemented a new format to determine the world champion. After the last event, which was Barra De La Cruz, the top 5 in the rankings qualified for the world championship event and I slid into 4th!! The format is cut throat and it should be super exciting to watch! Morgan and I surf against each other in the first heat then the winner goes against Filipe, that winner against Italo, and that winner surfs against Gabriel. For the final, it is best 2 out of 3.

In surfing, it has always made a lot of sense to have the world champion crowned base on a cumulation of points because it showed who was the best that year in all sorts of different waves. There is definitely a lot of truth to this, and it is going to be a bit weird to have the champion crowned based on one day. That being said, a lot of times the world title is decided without the two surfers vying for the title getting the chance to surf against each other. So, I think this format is going to be super exciting to be a part of, and super exciting to watch.

It's been a really different year trying to navigate the tour through the landscape of covid. The WSL did a great job to get it done. We had to stay on our toes and be ready to adapt to whatever was thrown at us. I've had a really fun year and by far my best year on tour for many reasons. I couldn't have done it without the support of my family, girlfriend Sierra, coach Glenn Hall, all of my sponsors, my manager Blair, and all of my friends and the other people that support me!!! You guys know who you are 🙂

The event at lowers is open to the public and is taking place on one day between the 9th and 17th of September. Right now it's looking like some good swell is lining up for the 12th!!! Come on down and get down!
